EN | From 9 to 11 November, Perve Galeria will be present at AKAA - Also Known As Africa, the first and only art fair in France devoted to contemporary art and design centered on Africa to be held at the Carreau du Temple (Paris).
Since its first edition in 2016, AKAA stands for a multifaceted Africa, foregrounding artists of the diaspora as well as artists from diverse origins with a personal link to the continent. This year's edition intends to extend further the contemporary art scene from Africa and emphasize the diversity resulting from spiritual, cultural, commercial and ideological links to other regions of the world, especially of the Global South.
Following the success of Ernesto Shikhani's solo presentation at Frieze Masters in London earlier this month, focusing on the artworks with an interventionist character from the 1970s and 1980s, the Mozambican master will be presented at AKAA in Paris. Thereby, the distinctive and unique artworks from 2000 until 2010, the year of his death, will be displayed along with the ones signed by Lizette Chirrime and Reinata Sadimba, from Mozambique, and Tchalé Figueira, from Cape Verde.
In spite of being part from different generations and use a different medium of expression, these four authors, deeply rooted in their heritage, established a new way of artistic creation, capable of assimilating an increasingly globalized and connected world. The result is a vibrant art scene that Perve Galeria (booth A7) will be showcasing during the art fair.
In parallel to the art fair, this year's edition of AKAA offers a vast cultural programming aiming to explore the connections between Africa and other regions in the Global South, from Latin America and the Caribbean to the Middle East and Asia. Les Rencontres AKAA will, thus, focus on this theme, hosting talks and exchanges with artists, curators, journalists, writers, researchers, musicians, and other art enthusiasts.
Perve Galeria's participation at AKAA is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under the Incentive System for Internationalization of SMEs.

Desde a sua primeira edição em 2016, AKAA defende uma África multifacetada, destacando artistas da diáspora, bem como artistas de diversas origens com uma ligação pessoal ao continente. A edição deste ano pretende ampliar ainda mais o cenário artístico contemporâneo africano e enfatizar a diversidade resultante de vínculos espirituais, culturais, comerciais e ideológicos com outras regiões do mundo, especialmente do Sul Global.
Depois do sucesso, no início deste mês, da apresentação individual de Ernesto Shikhani na Frieze Masters, em Londres, que incidiu nas obras de carácter intervencionista das décadas de 1970 e 1980, o mestre moçambicano será apresentado na AKAA em Paris. Assim, às obras distintivas e únicas de Ernesto Shikhani, datadas desde 2000 até 2010, o ano da sua morte, irão juntar-se outras da autoria de Lizette Chirrime e Reinata Sadimba, de Moçambique, e Tchalé Figueira, de Cabo Verde.
Apesar de pertencerem a diferentes gerações e recorrerem a diferentes meios de expressão, estes quatro autores, profundamente enraizados na sua herança, estabeleceram uma nova forma de criação artística, capaz de assimilar um mundo cada vez mais globalizado e conectado. O resultado é um cenário de arte vibrante que a Perve Galeria (stand A7) irá apresentar no decurso da feira de arte.
Paralelamente à feira de arte, a edição deste ano da AKAA oferece uma vasta programação cultural, cujo objetivo passa por explorar as conexões entre a África e outras regiões do Sul Global, desde a América Latina e Caraíbas até ao Médio Oriente e Ásia. Les Rencontres AKAA irá, assim, abordar este tema através de palestras e intercâmbios com artistas, curadores, jornalistas, escritores, investigadores, músicos e outros entusiastas da arte.
