At booth C2, the gallery will present artworks by Ernesto Shikhani (1934–2010, Mozambique), Reinata Sadimba (b. 1945, Mozambique), Teresa Roza d’Oliveira (1945–2019, Mozambique), Renée Gagnon (b. 1942, Canada/Portugal), and José Chambel (b. 1969, São Tomé and Príncipe), with the special participation of Algerian artist Hellal Zoubir (b. 1952).

ENG| For its 2025 participation in AKAA – Also Known As Africa, Perve Galeria presents a curated selection of six artists whose practices offer distinct perspectives on contemporary African and diasporic realities through diverse media: Ernesto Shikhani (1934–2010, Mozambique), Reinata Sadimba (b. 1945, Mozambique), Teresa Roza d'Oliveira (1945–2019, Mozambique), Renée Gagnon (b. 1942, Canada/Portugal), José Chambel (b. 1969, São Tomé and Príncipe), and Hellal Zoubir (b. 1952, Algeria).
The works of Ernesto Shikhani and Reinata Sadimba engage with ancestral symbology, liberation, and transformation within African modernism. Teresa Roza d'Oliveira, whose recent recognition as the first woman from a Portuguese-speaking African country featured in the Spotlight section of Frieze Masters marked a historic milestone, offers an intimate reflection on identity, gender, resistance, and freedom. Renée Gagnon brings a transnational perspective through her photographic and mixed-media practice grounded in long-term engagement with the musseques of Angola, while José Chambel explores architecture, memory, ancestral traditions, and post-colonial identity across Lusophone Africa.
In special participation, following his inclusion in the Afreximbank Curated Spotlight at this year's 1-54 London, Algerian artist Hellal Zoubir extends the dialogue beyond the Lusophone sphere. His vivid and incisive visual language reflects on the political and cultural transformations of post-independence Algeria, enriching the booth's exploration of shared histories and the evolving aesthetics of the African continent. Through this presentation, Perve Galeria reaffirms its commitment to fostering dialogue around African and Afro-diasporic identities, bridging geographies, histories, and voices within contemporary art.
PT| Na sua participação na AKAA – Also Known As Africa 2025, a Perve Galeria apresenta uma seleção curatorial de seis artistas cujas práticas oferecem distintas perspetivas sobre as realidades contemporâneas africanas e da diáspora, através de diversos meios de expressão: Ernesto Shikhani (1934–2010, Moçambique), Reinata Sadimba (n. 1945, Moçambique), Teresa Roza d’Oliveira (1945–2019, Moçambique), Renée Gagnon (n. 1942, Canadá/Portugal), José Chambel (n. 1969, São Tomé e Príncipe) e Hellal Zoubir (n. 1952, Argélia).
As obras de Ernesto Shikhani e Reinata Sadimba dialogam com a simbologia ancestral, a libertação e a transformação no contexto do modernismo africano. Teresa Roza d’Oliveira, cuja recente distinção como a primeira mulher de um país africano de língua portuguesa a integrar a secção Spotlight da Frieze Masters assinalou um marco histórico, propõe uma reflexão íntima sobre identidade, género, resistência e liberdade. Renée Gagnon oferece uma perspetiva transnacional através da sua prática fotográfica e multimédia, enraizada num envolvimento prolongado com os musseques de Angola, enquanto José Chambel explora a arquitetura, a memória, as tradições ancestrais e a identidade pós-colonial no contexto da África lusófona.
Em participação especial, após a sua presença no Afreximbank Curated Spotlight da 1-54 London deste ano, o artista argelino Hellal Zoubir expande o diálogo para além da esfera lusófona. A sua linguagem visual, vibrante e incisiva, reflete as transformações políticas e culturais da Argélia pós-independência, enriquecendo a exploração, por parte da galeria, das histórias partilhadas e das estéticas em evolução do continente africano. Com esta apresentação, a Perve Galeria reafirma o seu compromisso em promover o diálogo em torno das identidades africanas e afro-diaspóricas, estabelecendo pontes entre geografias, histórias e vozes no âmbito da arte contemporânea.
