PT| A partir de 11 de setembro, a Perve Galeria, em Alfama, apresenta a exposição “João Artur da Silva: Obras recentes e outras histórias”, patente até 18 de outubro de 2025. A mostra reúne um conjunto inédito e significativo de obras de um dos mais singulares artistas portugueses do século XX, cuja produção se mantém surpreendentemente ativa e relevante no século XXI.
A exposição assinala o 97.º aniversário do artista, celebrado a 5 de outubro, e prolonga a homenagem iniciada na St. Julian’s School, em Carcavelos, que recebe até 12 de outubro a primeira exposição individual de um ex-aluno, protagonizada precisamente por João Artur da Silva. Na Perve Galeria, o percurso expositivo ganha nova e maior amplitude, com a apresentação de obras recentes, muitas delas inéditas, que evidenciam a vitalidade criativa de um autor em permanente reinvenção.
Último fundador vivo do grupo “Os Surrealistas”, criado em 1949 por artistas como Mário Cesariny e Cruzeiro Seixas, João Artur da Silva construiu uma carreira discreta mas notável, desenvolvida entre Portugal, o Reino Unido e o Canadá, onde reside há várias décadas. A sua obra, marcada por uma linguagem singular e transnacional, tem vindo a ser redescoberta e valorizada em contextos internacionais desde que passou a ser representado pela Perve Galeria, no final de 2023.
Depois da sua apresentação em feiras como a ARCOlisboa, London Art Fair, Art Vancouver e Seattle Art Fair, esta nova exposição em Lisboa assume-se como um momento de celebração e reconhecimento da obra de um artista cuja criação atravessa o tempo, renovando-se com integridade, sensibilidade e liberdade criativa.
ENG| Starting September 11, Perve Galeria in Alfama presents the exhibition “João Artur da Silva: Recent Works and Other Stories”, on view until October 18, 2025. The show brings together a unique and significant selection of works by one of the most remarkable Portuguese artists of the 20th century, whose production remains surprisingly active and relevant in the 21st century.
The exhibition also marks the artist’s 97th birthday, celebrated on October 5, and extends the tribute initiated at St. Julian’s School in Carcavelos, which until October 12 hosts the first solo exhibition dedicated to a former student — precisely João Artur da Silva. The last living founder of the group “Os Surrealistas”, created in 1949 by artists such as Mário Cesariny and Cruzeiro Seixas, João Artur da Silva built a discreet yet remarkable career between Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Canada, where he has lived for several decades. His work, defined by a unique and transnational language, has been rediscovered and reassessed internationally since he began being represented by Perve Galeria in late 2023.
Following his presentations at major art fairs such as ARCOlisboa, London Art Fair, Art Vancouver, and Seattle Art Fair, this new exhibition in Lisbon stands as a moment of celebration and recognition of an artist whose work transcends time, constantly renewing itself with integrity, sensitivity, and creative freedom.
